Is Prankvertising the new trend in Advertising?

108313247Prankvertising is when a brand pulls a marketing prank on random, unsuspecting consumers. More major brands have started to use this approach as they realize how powerful this medium is at generating word of mouth buzz.  The more clever the “prank” the more apt it is to be spread virally through You Tube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.  It has the same appeal that “flash mobs” started way back in 2003.

Brands such as Coca Cola, Samsung and the TNT television network have all employed this tactic in their marketing strategy.   Some examples include the movie trailer for Dead Man Down.  The scene is set in an office building. Continue reading

New DART App Makes Commute to State Fair as Easy as Fried Apple Pie!

gopasspicEach year I look forward to stuffing my face with the newest fried concoctions at one of the biggest events to hit the Lone Star State .I am, of course, referring to the State Fair of Texas! While I can’t sleep thinking about all the great treats I will be tasting when I get to the fairgrounds, I sigh thinking about the commute to get there. Heineken has a history of executing out of the box guerilla marketing tactics like their newest tactic appropriately titled,”Departure Roulette.”  Last week, a Heineken representative set up a giant billboard at JFK’s Terminal 8 and asked volunteer travelers to press a button which would assign them to a new random destination immediately.
